Chicago's architectural community is trying to diversify with the help of a new UIC fellowship and a project led by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill designer Tiara Hughes

UIC alumni Raymond Hartshorne and James Plunkard committed $500,000 to UIC's School of Architecture aimed at increasing diversity among students obtaining a UIC architecture education. We talk with the first fellow Martina Smith and Tiara Hughes, a local architect who launched the First 500 website that seeks to serve as a resource for Black girls in women throughout their architecture journey.
